John Barnes, the former Liverpool and England Soccer star was the Guest of Honor at a dinner hosted by Bali Hilton International, Indo Sports and Paradise Properties to raise funds for the Aceh tsunami victims. All proceeds from the event will be channeled through the Rotary Club of Nusa Dua in support of the Rotary Tsunami Recovery effort.

The event was held at the Bali Hilton’s Ballroom on 16th January, 2005 and was covered by many of the top media including TV7, Bali TV, Bola Media, Jakarta Post, IndoSiar, SCTV, Bali Advertiser and Island Sportz. A three course dinner with wines was served after which John Barnes was introduced to the audience by Bali’s resident Mr. Football and also former Liverpool player Kenny Latham. John Barnes talked about his football experiences and spiced his speech with some amusing anecdotes involving players and managers. He also provided interesting insight into how the lives of players had changed since his days, mainly as a result of media attention. After his speech a number of items of soccer memorabilia were auctioned off the highlight being one of John Barnes England caps.

This event is part of the ongoing commitment of Bali Hilton to help the Indonesian community whenever possible, either independently or together with other sponsors or partners.
